The RESAFE project aims to revolutionize road and environmental safety by addressing one of the most critical traffic issues – water-pavement interaction. By developing the innovative Road and Environmental Safety Toolkit (REST), the project introduces a comprehensive system for improving road design and enhancing traffic safety.
REST is built on two powerful components: a detailed finite volume numerical model and a fast, AI-driven surrogate model. This dual approach allows for precise analysis of water flow on road surfaces, identification of critical areas prone to aquaplaning, and development of design recommendations to mitigate risks.
The primary goals of RESAFE are to revise existing road design standards, improve drainage efficiency, and support the implementation of porous asphalt on critical road sections.
